The blackness shall consume us alllllll!!!! We’re all dewmed!!! Emoclew perverts new and old, unicorn and banana puddle folk, to Volume 2 of the Vantablack & Neon Edition (feat. Vega Sanchez)! What the purple cockadoodle is a “Vega Sanchez,” you may ask? What the holiest of holy fucking fucks is Vantablack & Neon about?! Glad you fuckin’ asked! Vega has been a dear friend of mine for… fuck, a really fuckin’ long time. Unfortunately, the details regarding when & how we met have shuffled their way off the top of my head, but I know it’s been over a decade now. He’s the only person I’ve ever known to ask me for a copy of my music collection, and actually put the wheels in motion to get it.
In case you’re a new listener here, I have over 2.5 TB of music, and that’s actually not even that much anymore. One of my Lyft passengers had, like, 8 or something. I slowed down on my music acquisition quite significantly between 2007 and 2018ish due to myriad horrendous circumstances, but yeah, he’s the only one with a copy of most of it. To be frank, I applaud curiosity like that, and I’m far more willing to do that for others than most people might realize. It requires minimal effort, after all. Not that my library is so much better than anyone else’s or any shit like that, it’s just really fuckin’ expansive, and you’re likely to find some really cool shit in there no matter what kind of stuff you listen to.
Anyway, back to Vega. If you had to conjure up an image of him, I would say to imagine a goth philosophy professor with excellently discerning taste in music, movies, media in general, and you’d pretty much have him down. Mind you, goth as in adorned in all black, not donned in full makeup and Hot Topic-style regalia. I could tell you I went through that, “phase,” and that I don’t dress that way anymore, but I’d only be telling half the story. I just don’t care to put that kind of effort into my appearance right now with the exception of concerts for a variety of personal reasons, but I’ve never lost my taste for the aesthetic. I have kinda lost my taste for the subculture, but it’s mostly just bad memories that I’ll get over eventually. I do respect those who still rock the style into their 30s, 40s and beyond. They’re certainly a rare breed.
Anyway, yeah, that’s Vega. A living manifestation of darkness itself. As far as the podcast goes, this is a juxtaposition of synthwave, 80s style stuff next to goth/industrial rock & metal. Random facts: synthwave is (or may) also be called retrowave and/or Outrun (because of the style of music on the game). If someone knows of a clear distinction between those three that I’m overlooking, please inform me! I like being informed. Information is good. Yum. I am a hoo-man.
More random facts: within the broader genres of goth/industrial, there exists a harder style with similar tonality called EBM, or Electro-Body Music, as I’ve heard it called. I’ve included a few examples I felt would represent the theme of Vantablack especially well. I have no doubt there are better tracks from their catalogues that I could have picked, but I picked these, so fucking deal. Hope you yojne them. The Neon tracks are mostly groups I only recently discovered. I tried including as many newish tracks as I could. Incidentally, this whole edition is damn near 5 hours long again. What can I fuckin’ say? I’m too much, and I happen to like this theme a lot.
So, you’ll notice a few tracks off of Nine Inch Nails’ classic masterpiece, The Downward Spiral. I chose March of the Pigs because that was the track that introduced them to me, and Heresy because that’s one great example - amongst numerous others - of how fuckin’ awesome deep tracks can get when you venture beyond the singles. That one was used right at the beginning of Gregg Araki’s Doom Generation movie, actually. That whole soundtrack is pretty sweet, and the guys from Skinny Puppy get in a fight with the protagonist, so that’s always fun.
Also, I’m sure some of these tracks struggle to squeeze into the genre classifications for this theme, but I suppose you’re gonna just have to put on your big people pants and listen anyway. Maybe you’ll expand your horizons a bit. Also also, you’ll notice a few other random classic goth & industrial 80s & 90s jams on the tracklist. Nosferatu’s, “Farewell My Little Earth,” Orgy’s, “Dissention,” :Wumpscut:’s, “Black Death - French Concept,” and Marilyn Manson’s, “The Reflecting God,” specifically, but there are a number of others as well. Those are little nods to my teenhood. Nosferatu was one of the first goth bands that appealed to me, and I first heard that track from a Hot Topic compilation called Songs to Wake the Dead. Of course, right? Why wouldn’t it be called something like that? But yeah, I can’t speak for Vega’s classic track picks and why he chose them. I can’t really speak for him at all because he’s darkness incarnate.
Hmm? Ummm… Vega?
What are you doing with that knife, man?
…
Yojne, motherfuckers.

To Valhalla, perverts! Emo-fuckin’-clew to Volume 2 of the Through Niflheim to Valhalla Edition of Monday Morning Aural Fuckin’ Sex! As if you couldn’t guess by the name and/or cover art I posted for this shit, we’re goin’ deep into nordic folk and viking metal in this one. One of the groups describes themselves as “amplified history…” That group, dearest perverts, is the mighty Heilung, and one of the main reasons I made this edition is to hype myself the fuck up for the show on the 24th. I will most assuredly be taking pics and videos galore, even though I honestly would rather just experience the show, I’m almost certain that the temptation will be fuckin’ overwhelming to capture some of it at least.
So, to any nordic folk & viking metal purists who somehow may have stumbled across my little podcast here, calm your fuckin’ tits right now as you casually glide your fuckin’ eyeballs across the tracklisting. I’m pretty sure a few of these groups aren’t Nordic at all, but they fit the general theme of this edition, so I fuckin’ included them. The Abraxis song right near the beginning? That was put there again after Heilung’s phenomenal fuckin’ anthem, “In Maidjan,” to illustrate similarities between the tribal music of our earliest ancestors and the EDM many people listen to today. Many will tell you also that EDM still has a very tribal feel in the crowds, at least in certain subgenres anyway. It’s all subjective, so what-the-fuck-ever.
Anyway, I did my best to construct a sort of narrative here with the tracklist. I often do that, frankly. I hope someone notices and appreciates it at some point, but it’s enough for me alone if it goes unnoticed forever. Keep in mind too that I’m 31 fuckin’ flavors of exhausted right now. Yes, I’m the Baskin fuckin’ Robbins of exhaustion, and I’m surprised I’m even typing semi-coherently at this point, but this podcast is important to me. It’s a self-discipline thing, and it definitely helps me keep my life somewhat in order. So, no matter how much I procrastinate, or how busy I am, or how poorly I plan this shit out before I’m sitting here assembling it all, I drag myself through to the end. The fucked up thing is that from the time I finish writing, recording and editing this intro, there’s still another hour and a half to two hours worth of stuff to do.
That said, let us all, and by that I mean me, myself, and your cousin George, stoppeth yammeringith soeth weath caneth yojneth!

Monday Morning Aural Sex: 2020-01-13 (All-Star Series: Nostalghia Edition)
Monday Jan 13, 2020
Monday Jan 13, 2020
Gorgeous perverts! Emo-fuckin’-clew to another installment of the All-Star Series: the Nostalghia Edition! Yes, this is another one centered on a female artist, because my All-Star Series podcasts up until late 2019 was all male. Totally unintentional, and frankly I’m fuckin’ ashamed of it, but I’m making up for it now, goddamn it!
Okay, so who is Nostalghia? Fuck, if you haven’t heard me yammer the fuck on about her on this podcast yet, I don’t know under which rock you’ve been living. I’ve played her songs countless times since I began this podcast back in 2012, but up until 2019, there wasn’t really enough material to make up a full edition. At least, not a full edition as I define it, which is somewhere over 2½-3 hours. Sorry if that’s too fuckin’ long for you, but you’d be surprised how quickly that time flies when you’re focused on something other than the goddamn clock.
Anyway, I digress yet again. Let me just read to you from her bio on her website, because I think it does her far better justice than even I ever could:
NOSTALGHIA’S MUSIC IS BEST DESCRIBED IN PALATE FORM; A VULNERABLE OUTPOUR OF ELEMENTAL EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPE MARRIED TO ITS CINEMA OF SOUND, BIRTHING WHAT IS NOW COINED BY FANS AS, “MUSIC FOR THE IMPASSIONED CREATURE.”
JUST SIX YEARS AGO, CALIFORNIA-IRANIAN NATIVE, NOSTALGHIA, FOUND HERSELF HOMELESS IN NORTH SAN FERNANDO VALLEY. AFTER BREAKING INTO A DINGY PIANO ROOM TO SLEEP FOR THE NIGHT, HER LIFE WOULD CHANGE FOREVER. AT THAT TIME, THE UNTRAINED SIREN DIDN'T EVEN KNOW SHE COULD SING OR PLAY. BUT, THAT PIANO, IN THAT ROOM, IN THAT TIME, WOULD TEACH HER EVERYTHING SHE WOULD NEED TO KNOW. SOON AFTER, SHE MET COLLABORATOR ROY GNAN AND IN 2015, RELEASED THEIR FIRST INDEPENDENT ALBUM, CHRYSALIS. RECEIVING PRAISE FOR ITS INNOVATIVELY UNIQUE SYNTHESIS OF PRIMAL POP AND THE AVANT-GARDE, NOSTALGHIA WAS GIVEN ACCOLADE AS A STRONG FORCE ON THE RISE.
THIS LEAD TO NOSTALGHIA APPEARING IN AND WRITING FOR HIT FILMS AND TELEVISION SHOWS INCLUDING JOHN WICK, JOHN WICK CHAPTER 2, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, THE FOLLOWING, THE NBA FINALS, AND SALEM. SHE HAS TOURED WITH 30 SECONDS TO MARS, TV ON THE RADIO, AFI, CHINO MORENO'S CROSSES, AND SERJ TANKIEN, AMONG OTHERS. NOSTALGHIA HAS PERFORMED AT MANY MUSIC FESTIVALS INCLUDING AUSTIN CITY LIMITS, SOUND WAVE, RIOT FEST, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL, OTTAWA BLUES FEST, PEMBERTON MUSIC FESTIVAL, AND HUDSON PROJECT.
NOSTALGHIA'S LIVE SHOW IS BEST DESCRIBED AS, NAKED BENEATH LIGHTS. SHE TRANSPORTS THE AUDIENCE INTO A CATHARTIC DIMENSION, RIDING THE UNIVERSAL WAVES OF FEELING, INTENSITY, AND PASSION; A JOURNEY AND MOVEMENT INTO THE UNKNOWN, A SPIRITUAL TRANSCENDENCE, AND A PLACE WHERE ALL WALKS OF LIFE CAN CONNECT TO THE GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE, PAIN, STRUGGLE, AND TRIUMPH. AS ONE JOURNALIST PUT IT, "NOSTALGHIA HAS A TRULY AUTHENTIC VULNERABILITY THAT IS MOST RARE. I LITERALLY FOUND MYSELF WEEPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VENUE."
IN OCTOBER OF 2018, NOSTALGHIA IS SET TO RELEASE HER NEW FULL LENGTH RECORD, IMAGO, THE NEXT STEP IN THE EVOLUTION OF THEIR DEBUT ALBUM CHRYSALIS. NAKED, VULNERABLE, AND UNVEILED NOW, SHE EMBARKS THROUGH WOMANHOOD ON THE JOURNEY OF IMAGO, A SOUND WHICH COULD DRAW COMPARISONS FROM A DIVERSE AND ECLECTIC GROUP OF ARTISTS INCLUDING AGNES OBEL, FIONA APPLE, BILLIE HOLIDAY, AND BJORK. THE FIRST SINGLE OFF OF IMAGO, LITTLE WHITE MOMENT, BRIDGES THE METAMORPHOSIS OF THE ARTIST BREAKING FREE FROM HER SILK COCOON TO THE UNVEILED YOUNG WOMAN IN HER PRESENT STATE OF EVOLUTION.
WHEN ASKED THE DAUNTING QUESTION, "SO WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE?"
NOSTALGHIA RESPONDS WITH A SMIRK AND A WINK, "ONLY A LIFETIME OF CELEBRATED TRANSFORMATIONS."
Pretty fuckin’ awesome, right? Check out her Spotify bio:
“Handwritten love letters. A long conversation with a stranger on the subway. Strolling down the Boulevard gazing up at the autumn leaves. Getting lost. Happy accidents. This is a forgotten time… a forgotten place. The romance of tangible, human contact, the sentimental notion of not being tied to your phone, to your social media feed, to your avatar. Have we all forgotten how to be human? Have we forgotten the notion of Romance? Or is #romance just another hashtag, another Wikipedia entry, another google search, another Tinder swipe? Nostalghia says it best: ‘I am bringing romance back into the tangible world. I want the world to fall in love with what it truly means to be human.’”
Fucking wonderful, in my opinion. I hope you agree. Nostalghia is an artist I would recommend to fans of Fiona Apple, Björk, Tori Amos and the like. Pretty much any particularly soulful female artist, ‘cause she could stand confidently next to any of them even though she’s a relatively newer artist compared to those mentioned. Speaking of which, because she’s relatively new, she deserves our fuckin’ support! Don’t just listen to this edition and hope she tours around your town sometime soon. Go to her webstore and buy some stuff. It’s all very reasonably priced, especially the stuff that’s autographed. Her brand Gorgeous Creature, which is named after one of the songs on Imagō (or vice versa), includes hand-crafted altar pieces, sacred stone jewelry, skincare products, therapeutic oils, all sorts of stuff. I think you might even be able to book what’s known as a metamorphic ritual consultation with her, too. I read about that somewhere on one of her social media outlets a little while ago and I’ve actually considered doing it, hardened skeptic though I am.
What else can I say about this lady? Well, the first time I heard about her was from an article published in LA Weekly in which she and her bandmate Roy Gnan talked about listening to their own music while tripping on mushrooms, and being thoroughly frightened. Of course, I was immediately intrigued, so I went on the internets and found her video for Cool For Chaos, and… FUCK! You’re gonna hear the song in just a bit, but FUCK! If that song doesn’t stick with you for a while, I don’t know. You might be actually dead. You might literally be a lifeless fuckin’ corpse. Even zombies would give it up for that track. In fact, I’m going to include the links to all her music videos next to the appropriate tracks in the tracklist. I haven’t bothered doing that in a while, and I actually should’ve done that for Otep too, so I guess I suck. I’m sorry! I just thought of it now. Ah well, I’m sure you’ll get over it.
What else? What else? Hmmm… Oh! Some of you motherfuckers might know her from John Wick 2! That scene where John goes to kill that lady in the club? The band that’s performing in that scene is Nostalghia! Did they kill it or what?! I was fuckin’ giddy during that scene, especially since I’ve never seen them live. They actually toured with Chino’s Crosses back in mid-2014, but I missed that for… reasons. To be honest, I don’t know how I dropped the ball on that one, because that should’ve been pinging on my radar somethin’ ferocious. That’s like a dream show right there. Anyway, yeah, she also lent her vocals to a Seven Lions track called Serpent of Old that played during the credits of Letterkenny S6E1. I actually knew the track before I saw the episode, and we’ll be hearing that one a little later. If you motherfuckers haven’t seen Letterkenny, fucking watch it. You won’t be sorry. Seven Lions is a melodic dubstep artist that I’ve played plenty of times on this podcast, too. You ought to remember seeing his name.
Anyway, a few audio nerd things to cover before we commence ze yojne:
1. Nostalghia has an album before Chrysalis, which was claimed to be her debut. An album and an EP, actually. The album is called I Am Robot, Hear Me Glitch, and the EP is the Cool For Chaos EP.
2. Two tracks from I Am Robot… and two tracks from Cool For Chaos actually ended up on Chrysalis. Those tracks are You + I, I Am Robot…, Homeostasis and Cool For Chaos. Curiously, however, the former 3 tracks are each 20 seconds longer on their original releases than they are on Chrysalis. I guess Roy and Nostalghia felt like the tracks could use some trimming.
3. The track on Chrysalis called Homeostasis is actually called Homeostasis, Got My Gun on the original Cool For Chaos EP. To be honest, there’s a curious lack of information about her first two releases available on the internet. I’m not sure if they were/are trying to bury those releases for some reason, but they did/do exist, and I have physical copies.
4. If you sign up for her mailing list on her website, you can get an unreleased demo of her cover of Lovesong by The Cure. I suggest signing up simply because supporting this woman is the right thing to fuckin’ do, but she did great work with the cover too, and we’ll be hearing that a little later on as well. Actually, in the ID3tag for the song, it says Starshine in the album field, and there’s a track called Starshine on the B-Sides for the Brokenhearted EP. Perhaps Starshine is an upcoming album title? Perhaps it’s since been scrapped? I don’t fuckin’ know, but it’s got me curious.
Also, also, unrelated to Nostalghia but something that I mentioned I’d mention if I figured it out, that track from last week’s edition called Diary by Free The Robots… I did know it. It was one of the last tracks on disc 2 of a mix CD set that Sunny Rae made for me back in 2009. I’m actually quite surprised it came around again like that, and I had a sneaking suspicion that’s where I knew it from, so I put it near the end where I usually put the tracks that put me in mind of her. Put, put, Putty McPutPut.
Anyway, with.all.that.fuckin’.said.and.finally.fuckin’.over.with, do you know what fuckin’ time it is? That’s right. It is time, to yojne.

Monday Morning Aural Sex: 2020-01-06 (New Music for a New Decade Edition)

Monday Jan 06, 2020
Happy fuckin’ New Year, perverts, pervettes and everything between and beyond, including unicorn folk! Emo-fuckin’-clew to the New Music for a New Decade Edition! Doesn’t get much more obvious than that, does it? Each one of these tracks is new in some way: both the artist and track are new to both me and this podcast, just the track is new to both, or the track is only new to this podcast. There’s only one of those, and that’s the track by Marc Rebillet (not sure how to pronounce that ‘cause I’ve never heard it pronounced and haven’t looked it up yet). It’s a track called Look at That Ass, he has a video for it, and the dude is just such a fuckin’ character. I think those of you with a sense of humor will yojne it. I truly can’t believe I haven’t put him on this podcast yet, but here he finally is.
Also, I would swear I’ve heard the Free The Robots song somewhere before, but I’m almost certain that one is new to this podcast too. If I figure it out, I’ll mention it in the intro to next week’s edition if I remember to do so. Anyway, since the title of this week’s edition is self-explanatory, and also because it’s currently 7:45 A-fucking-M and I’m exhausted, I won’t yammer the fuck on as I usually do. Quick thanks to everyone who watched my video blog I made for New Year’s. I really appreciate the feedback I got on it, and especially the time you all spent listening to me go on and fuckin’ on like that. One last thing before we yojne, however…
