Haylow, parvirts! Tonight I've got one awesome album, and one... meh album. The first one is a Chino Moreno (of the Deftones) side project called ††† (pronounced "Crosses") with their self-titled debut album. The next one is from a country artist named Ray Price.Right off the bat, this being a Chino Moreno project, you ought to be all over this one. It's similar to one of his other projects: Team Sleep. Very mellow, but as beautiful as anything else Chino touches.Also, right off the bat (whatever the fuck that means), the next album is country. Granted, it's older country, which tends to be better than 9/10ths of country music from the past 20 years. But still... I just can't get into all the guitar twanging. Hello again, my dearest perverts! Today, I've got the album that introduced me to the alien rulers of Earth: GWAR's, "This Toilet Earth." After that, the pace doesn't just change... it gets flipped on its ass. After that is another Ray Charles album: "Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music."I first heard about GWAR through Beavis & Butthead (the medium through which I found out about a TON of awesome music, by the way). Beavis & Butthead are totally fanatical about GWAR. The end goal of both the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis Beavis & Butthead games is to get tickets to a GWAR concert. Honestly, even if you're not that into the punk metal style of their music, you've got to appreciate their creativity and boldness in their donning immense and elaborate foam rubber suits on stage.As far as the Ray Charles album goes, well, the album title is a total misnomer, in my opinion. I have yet to acquire a taste for country music, and this album is more of what Ray Charles is known for than any sort of country music. The 29th album on my personal 1,001 list: Portishead’s self-titled album. This one was the first album I bought by them, although the first song I heard, “Roads,” is on their debut album, “Dummy.” I heard it on the movie Tank Girl. What’s up, perverts?! Happy Presidents Day… or something. Does anyone give a shit? I mean, about the actual holiday, not that they get a day off from their job they hate. Anyone who doesn’t know much about blues would likely do well to start learning about it from this album.
