Hwhat the fuck is up, pervalitties?! Emo-futhamuckin’-clew to the 9th volume of the Entranced Edition of Monday Morning Aural ckufamuthin’ Sex! First of all, apologies that this is coming to you so late. I imagine it might still be morning in Hawaii or some shit, but I’m pretty sure I don’t have any listeners there. After I finished recording, I was dead tired, and I figured it was more important to get some sleep than to power through to do this and subsequently have to readjust as I’ve done countless times. Shit just wears me down after a while, ya know? Anyway, man, it’s been almost a full-ass fuckin’ year since volume 8. You’d almost think I had a ton of other fuckin’ ideas for this podcast and I’ve just been neglecting the themed ones. You’d be incorrect, but you could also almost think that. To be perfectly frank, this podcast doesn’t particularly need a steady stream of fresh ideas; so long as I continue to enjoy making them (and can afford to), I shall indeed do so.
Speaking of being able to afford to, my laptop from college that I’ve been using to rip shit from Spotify has finally gotten so old that Spotify doesn’t work on it anymore. That was one of the last apps that required a net connection that still sorta worked on my 15-fuckin’-year-old laptop. So, if that shit shat the bed, how the fuck did I manage to make this podcast full of new jams freshly compiled (which I did indeed), you might ask? I actually had to use my fuckin’ phone. No biggie really; I used to compile almost exclusively from the massive collection on my hard drives. Kinda sad that I barely use that shit anymore, but it most definitely still serves a purpose. Plus, a fair amount of that stuff is lower quality mp3s, and I don’t wanna subject us to that shit if I can at all avoid it.
So, ç’est la fuckin’ vie, I’ve gotta get a new laptop. “Gotta,” is doing some heavy lifting there, but it honestly is pretty inconvenient having so old a laptop that the goddamn internet browsers won’t function. That’s planned obsolescence for ya, I guess. Although, I think on a scale of a decade and a half, that’s a bit more arguable. Any-fuckin’-way, who cares? I just need to shell out more fuckin’ dough and I’ll be good-ish again. Shit, we’re knee deep in the 3rd fuckin’ paragraph here, and I haven’t said a single word about the content of this fuckin’ podcast. How do y’all tolerate a fuckin’ windsock like me? I truly have no idea, except I know most of ya don’t.
So, the name “Entranced,” ought to be a pretty apparent indicator of what to expect here, but just in case, we’ve got *drum roll*… trance music. Yup, progressive trance, psytrance, goa, dark psy, a sprinkle or two of poppy trance, y’all know I don’t really discriminate so long as a track makes me feel something. Trance, for the greenest of greenies, is a subgenre of EDM, aka Electronic Dance Music. If you somehow have managed to avoid hearing that through your entire life, well, you’re in for either a terrible or delightful experience. It’s difficult to imagine anyone finding trance to be terrible, but so goes the human race. All of that shit is difficult to imagine; just turn on the fuckin’ news at random and you’ll see.
So, my experience of trance began back in mid-2000 with the album Tranceport mixed by Paul Oakenfold. I’ve absolutely loved it ever since, and I’ll always adore that album. Definitely haven’t kept up with Paul Oakenfold’s material though. Maybe that’ll be a path for this year. Those of y’all who haven’t spent long nights at shows and raves dancing and sweating your ass off waving glowsticks around in a desperate but futile quest to merge your physical form with the intangible sound waves of the music just really haven’t experienced trance yet. Maybe you think you’re fine without that experience, but I say you’re missin’ the fuck out. When trance hits, man, it fuckin’ hits. Some have melodies that just course through your veins like some sort of heavenly dream. However, just like many other genres, there’s a ton of filler; the great tracks are usually such treats though, so it makes all the exploration well worthwhile.
Honestly, and I wouldn’t lie about this, in the 20+ years that I’ve loved trance, it’s been present in so many of my favorite memories. The first and only time I ever did X, Astral Projection was playing on my computer, and it made the whole night feel exponentially more significant. The first time I saw Ferry Corsten, I danced my ass off ’til like 5 AM until he finally wrapped with Veracocha’s, “Carte Blanche,” one of the best songs ever written, and certainly one of his best as well. One of the last shows I went to with my friend Shy was to see Ferry Corsten in NYC at some lame-ass club, but seeing him after so long was worth every effort. I won’t even get into the disappointing times I tried to see Tiësto, suffice to say, I fuckin’ hate when venues oversell tickets. It’s been so fuckin’ long since I’ve been to a show, though. Need to get in much better shape before all that, to be sure.
Finally, I ought to direct your attention to the fact that a bunch of these tracks along with ones I’ve played in the past all have (Extended Mix) following the title. That’s because the more mainstream trance artists cut their original mixes down for potential radio play. Either that, or they genuinely do “extend” the original, shorter mixes of their tracks, but I’m more inclined to imagine it’s the former. Just seems like a much easier way to produce, in my opinion. Sometimes you’ll see an artist’s name preceding the words “extended mix,” as well. I always opt for the extended mixes myself, ‘cause I want to actually hear the full song. Ya know? I actually have a longer attention span than that of a gnat, so I prefer the longer versions. They even have some additional melodic elements to them sometimes. Other times, no extended mix to speak of; at least, not that I could find in short order. Other other times, especially in the case(s) of psytrance artists and stuff, they don’t bother with the “extended mix,” stuff. Not entirely sure why, but those tracks tend to be plenty long enough as they are.
Finally finally, there’s a track from a Columbian artist in here named KhoMha called Magia (and yes, of course it’s the extended mix). I bring it up because you would think that the extended mix would be included on the single of the same name, “Magia,” right? Wrong! Nope, it’s actually on a different “single,” called Profundo. I put single in quotations, because that motherfucker is 40 minutes long. Ain’t no damn single that long, my guy. That’s an EP at the very least, but it’s still a banger-ass track, so stay the fuck tuned.
Anyway, that’s probably enough yammering, eh? Apologies, I didn’t mean to go on that long, but at the same time, it’s my fuckin’ podcast. Also, you could just skip my stupid bullshit with the skip arrows on the app and site. All that done said and did, whaddya say we ojneyay?!
