2023-01-16 (All-Star Series: Immortal Technique Edition)

Ho-muthafuckin’-la, perverinos! Emo-goddamn-clew to another installment of the All-Star Series, the muthafuckin’ Immortal Technique Edition, right the fuck here on Monday Morning Aural fuckin’ Sex! Holiest of holy fucks, why has it taken me so long to produce one of these for Tech? Especially since one of my recent All-Star Series was for another hip-hop legend, Tech N9ne? Do you perverts have any idea how many Tech N9ne features I found that I hadn’t yet heard while I was looking through Immortal Technique features? And yet, I’m fairly certain they’ve yet to do a track together. Fuckin’ strange.

 

Any-fuckin’-way, born Felipe Coronel, Immortal Technique has become an underground legend over the past 20 years through his epic freestyle battles and his unrepentant hardcore flow. Most people likely know of him through his song Dance With The Devil. Little side anecdote here, I actually attempted to flirt with a girl ages ago at a club, and we got to talkin’ about the difference(s) between rap & hip-hop. I brought up Immortal Technique, and she was like, “Oh god, that Dance With The Devil song was disgusting!” I’m like… uh, yeah. In other obvious-ass fuckin’ news, the sky is blue. Didn’t bother pursuing her after that; just politely wished her a good evening and was on my merry fuckin’ way. Y’all might think I’m shallow for that shit, but nah, if she can’t fuck with Dance With The Devil, all sorts of other shit that I’m passionate about would get her runnin’ from me in a snap. Figured I’d spare us both a waste of time.

 

So, another anecdote here, the first time I saw Immortal Technique was at Rock the Bells in ’07. I was there for Wu-Tang Clan & Rage Against The Machine, but goddamn was I richly rewarded for getting there as early as I did. I think Tech went on around 1 PM or some shit, and holy fuck was that a fantastic set. Being at that show, especially dealing with the shit I was dealing with (on my birthday, of all days), it was like a breath of fresh air amidst an unfathomably dense fog of pollution. I saw all these artists and activists talking about sociopolitical matters, crucial and non-personal matters, and it inspired me to not only become vegetarian, but also to get the fuck out of my head. Had to stop fixating on the dumb fuckin’ bullshit I was enduring, because there were (and are) so many more important things to think about, speak on and do.

 

Yet another anecdote, the last time I saw him was a few years ago with my buddy Al. Pretty sure I got Al into him, too. Anyway, we got to sit and talk with him for a bit, take pictures, etc. I told him that I’d been feeling like a rudderless ship stranded out in the ocean what with Trump in office and the ceaseless fuckin’ insanity that brought to our lives, but that seeing him perform felt like a fuckin’ hurricane. He speaks and performs with such a ferocious passion, it’s downright impossible not to scream, “VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN!” along with him when he does the same. 

 

Anyway, enough of the anecdotes. As you may be able to tell from the tracklisting, Tech has been featured on countless fuckin’ tracks. Some of which aren’t on Spotify, and some of which I couldn’t even find any trace of at all. I had no idea there were so many, which is both the consistent blessing and curse of doing these fuckin’ All-Star editions. I’m curious about it all, but goddamn does it sometimes take a long fuckin’ time to sift through. Anyway, Tech has 3 full LPs and a compilation under his belt. I had no idea that The Martyr was a compilation until a day ago, but yeah, apparently so. I should mention here that my Immortal Technique collection is old as fuck, far from complete, and widely varying in audio quality. I did whatever I could to include the highest quality versions of everything, but ya know, I can only do so much with some of these. If you hear a track that sounds crappy, now ya know why. Also, this shit is a little over 5 ½ fuckin’ hours long because I honestly just couldn’t decide on any other tracks to cut after I whittled it down from fuckin’ 6 hours. And no, I was not at all in the mood to split it into two parts like I did for Excision. Publishing multi-part editions is a lot more work than it seems to be, trust me.
