What’s up, muthafuckas?! Welcome to the Black Lives Matter Edition of Monday Morning Aural Sex! This one has been a long time coming, I know. That’s why I was able to sit and compile yet another 12 fuckin’ hours of music for y’all in just an hour or two. This will definitely be another series because even though I did compile so much, it was pretty much all from podcasts I’ve done in the past year. Can you even imagine how much more I could find as far as brand new shit and shit I love that I haven’t even played yet?
Recently, I made a post on Instagram and Facebook wearing my, “Stop Killing Black People,” shirt (from Melanin apparel, by the way. Check them out.), and in that post I mentioned how bland the pop culture landscape would be without the contributions (not to mention the shit white people stole) from black people? (Speaking of which, rest in power Chadwick Boseman.) But yeah, what would we have left, for real? Fuckin’ polka? Come on, fellow white people, help me out here. What would we be left with? Man, I honestly can’t even relate to the level of fear it must require of people to hate someone else based solely on skin color. If we’re bein’ real though, it’s not just that, is it? It’s all wrapped up in stereotypes and toxic misinformation fed to these malleable-ass minds. They think that somehow, if black people and people of color in general are able to live in true equality, that it’ll be taking away from their lives somehow. Maybe they’ve got a parent who keeps holding a grudge over some affirmative action type thing, and they pass the hate on. Again, malleable minds.
I’ve seen common threads amongst the right-wing people that they favor populism, and they’re against big corporations screwing them out of jobs. One of the biggest promises Trump ran on was that he was gonna “drain the swamp,” of all the corruption. That would’ve been great, and it likely would’ve garnered bi-partisan support had it actually happened. My point is simply that racism doesn’t make any fuckin’ sense when there are much greater foes to be felled in classism. We need everyone workin’ together to hold these assholes accountable, or maybe even grab the pitchforks and torches. If the federal reserve was able to serve up multiple trillion dollar relief bills to corporations, why the fuck are the left and right still fighting amongst each other? The real enemy is above y’all, motherfuckers! Racism is most definitely a real enemy, I know, but it’s also a tool that the upper class uses to keep the uninformed occupied, fighting with the informed so that we never have a chance to unite and demand what’s ours. That was our fuckin’ money that the fed just pissed away!
I don’t know, man. I don’t have all the answers, I’m not tryin’ to come off like I do. I do know that as much of a loathsome reptile as Richard Spencer is, Charles Barkley was able to sit and talk with him to try and reach an understanding. I don’t think it worked, but at least the fuckin’ attempt was made. Listen, if you see anyone stoking fear about someone else, you gotta look behind what they’re sayin’ and figure out what’s in it for them. Think about this situation: you go out to a bar or club with a friend, and you see someone you wanna talk to, but your friend tells you not to. They tell you this, that and the other thing about them, and you thank your friend ‘cause you think they got your back. Then, you find out that it was only ‘cause your so-called friend wanted them too, and they were just throwin’ you off the scent. That motherfucker is not your friend. It’s this obsession or even addiction to individualism that we have in this country. So many people runnin’ around feelin’ entitled as fuck to not wear masks, to do this, to do that. Listen, being an individual is important, but it’s even more important to realize that we’re all individuals. Most of us, we’re collectively struggling just to get through the days, and hate towards your fellow man just makes this whole world so much goddamn colder.
There are so many issues that contribute to racism, I know. I wouldn’t want to try speakin’ on them all in the span of one podcast intro, but again, this is gonna be a new series now. I know we can do better, America. I know we can. I’ve felt love and warmth from total strangers even just in a concert setting, but think back to how we come together when there’s a national tragedy. Some people are beyond hope, I know that. I’m sayin’ that the majority of people will help each other in emergencies. If you’re feelin’ cynical about that, I suggest you watch a little less of the news. That shit can really do a number on your perspective of humanity. I know that from experience. Speaking of news though, goddamn…
What I got from this past week’s coverage of the RNC (and to be fair… I did watch as much of it as I could each night) is that they want you to believe the Democratic party has been hijacked by a bunch of radical anarchists. Shiiiiit, don’t tempt me with a good time, motherfucker! I’m sorry to report that is plainly untrue. I mean, the RNC was like a fuckin’ lie-dal wave, hehe. Get it? Ehhh, if ya don’t laugh, ya cry, right? But no, nobody’s comin’ to the suburbs to take over your fuckin’ patio. We just wanna fuckin’ live. Is that so much to ask? That video you saw of that couple pointin’ their guns at protestors, those protestors weren’t even there for them. They were walkin’ the fuck by on their way to protest outside the governor’s house or some shit, and these two fools got paranoid. Hearkening back to what I said about what’s in it for the people who stoke fear, it’s greed, motherfucker. Greed is one of the most pernicious diseases of modern times. It’s been around forever, I know, but greed is especially brazen in today’s society. You wonder what’s in it for them? Money! Money, motherfucker. Certain people don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes (which, with how corrupt our government is with its preposterously bloated military budget, I don’t altogether blame them).
That’s why we gotta root out the corruption from below. The greedy-ass DNC decided to coalesce behind Biden to take down Bernie, so instead of changing shit from the top down, we gotta come from the bottom up. Bernie has spoken on that a number of times. The things that unite us are simple: we want to live, we want to have at least a moderate quality of life, and we want to be able to provide for our families. All those things can be accomplished if we get these racist fuckheads to understand that we share a common enemy. Shit, even without their help, we can get it done one way or another. I think it’s profoundly fuckin’ immoral for billionaires to exist at all, let alone obscenely wealthy motherfuckers like Bezos and the Waltons, especially while people in this world are still dying of easily preventable things like fuckin’ starvation or access to clean water.
Anyway, I could go on and on about this and so many other things. Real quick though, I want to mention that I watched the 3rd Bill & Ted movie on Saturday. I want everyone who believes in the communicative and unifying power of music to watch that. Think what you want about the plot, CGI, etc. The whole premise of the movie is that one song has to be performed to prevent the utter collapse of time and space. I can’t even wrap my mind around what would comprise a song like that, but they do such a great job throughout the movie showing how music binds us through the ages. That is one of the big, big reasons why I do this podcast even though it’s a lot of effort and it’s a bit expensive. The whole reason I started this podcast in the first place was to make your Monday mornings a little less shitty. I know most people don’t listen to all or even any of these, but goddamn it, the attempt was made and it’s continuously being made every week. I want you to feel some of the shit I feel so that we can all feel a little less alone in the world. That’s not so much to ask, is it?
Anyway, to recap, this is the inaugural Black Lives Matter Edition of what will surely be another fucktacular series of Monday Morning Aural Sex podcasts. This will obviously be featuring black artists from all around the musical spectrum, including a couple who made an appearance in the 3rd Bill & Ted movie. This is just a little under 4 ½ hours, and I know that’s a lot to take in all at once (giggity), but that’s why you can pause the shit in the Podbean app and come back to it whenever ya fuckin’ like! It saves your place on pretty much any podcast you’ve listened to at all, in fact.
The content of the music is all stuff I think is pertinent to the BLM movement and the current sociopolitical climate through which we’re all suffering. Not all of it, of course. I can’t speak for an entire movement, but I do with all my heart support its ends of economic and judicial racial equality. I did spend a good amount of time trying to organize the tracks in an order that made sense to me. Hopefully it makes some semblance of sense to you, too.
